I've always been a dog lover.  When my sister and I were children, she would set her stuffed animals in a row on the living room floor and take a plastic cup and hit the family up for penny donations to the "United Dog Foundation".  I don't know where she came up with the name (she was all of 3 or 4 years old), but it seemed appropriate.  We always found a few pennies to put in her cup.

I currently have several malamutes and did rescue for several years - attempting to place over 771 dogs in 1992 alone.  It was a huge job to do alone, and it would have been nice to have help, but I didn't.  The one thing I found the most frustrating was when I discouraged a potential pet owner from getting a malamute (because it wasn't a good fit) it would have been nice to be able to refer them to a breed that WOULD have been a good fit.  Also, I knew help and homes for the 771 were out there, but because I was a one-person operation, I didn't have the resources to advertise widely so it wasn't well known that I could have used a little help fostering, financially, or just screening homes.  Because of this, many dogs had no where to go.   I thought, wouldn't it be nice if  rescues - formal and informal - had a clearinghouse or directory to make them easier to find.

So of my sisters' stuffed dog collection, this site was born.  We don't take donations in a plastic cup - but we do ask you to send your pennies to the rescue of your choice.  They need you - and the dogs need you even more. I maintain this site for free, and don't charge for listings -  our advertisers put a few pennies in our cup that helps pay for hosting - so please click on their links to buy your pet supplies.  But more importantly, find a dog that needs you and that you'll love forever - he or she's out there - just waiting to be found.  And this is the best place to start.
